THRISSUR POORAM – the greatest show on earth.
For pooram they provide splendidly caparisoned elephants in the richest of adornments with their mahouts holding parasols of coloured silk. As the day of the pooram arrives, the elephants in their disciplined dignity line up on the opposite sides of the maiden to the music of the traditional panchavadyam – the conch, cymbals, trumpet and two kinds of drums. The Festivity begin to the Feverish rhythm of the drums and the opposing parties unveil their splendid displays of coloured.
 
Among the varieties of Festivals celebrated in Kerala, Thrissur pooram is the most thunderous spectacular and eye-dazzling pooram will be held on the month of April in Trichur maiden every year opposite to Vadakkumnathan Temple. It is a magnificent spectacle with nightlong Fire works and a splendid procession of hundred and one Elephants.

ART FORMS KATHAKALI
Speaking of celebrations, the Arts are an integral part of all celebrations in Kerala, probably non-more so than the most famous dance form, kathakali. Carrying on an ancient art, richly costumed their faces mashed and painted, these performers enact stories from Indian mythology. Some times continuously for days. From dusk to dawn. Kathakali is perhaps the only dance form in which entire body is use to portray emotions. Beginning at the age of seven, the disciples’ studies under the guru for around seven to eight years, to gain mastery over basic techniques. Kathakali has been referred to as the first theatre imagination of the world.
 
MOHINIYATTOM
The dance of the enchantress is a distinct type of dance form, which has existed in kerala for hundreds of years. It has been remarked that there is a resemblance between mohiniyattom and the land of its birth. The graceful movements of the dances has been compared to the palms swaying in the gentle breeze and the sweeping wants which are so much a part of Kerala’s lush landscape
   
     
THE GREAT BOAT RACE

This is the greatest event on the backwaters of Kerala is held on the Second Saturday of August every year magnificent Snake boats compete for the prized trophy.

   
The Great Boat Face, tracing its roots to ancient naval warfare. 50 meter long wooden craft, with stand-up sterns resembling the hood of the cobra are powered by over a hundred ebony bodied oarsmen.
In a scintillating display strength and rhythm to the accompaniment of war – cries and songs cheered on by the thousands who throng the banks, these races set the otherwise serene backwaters on Fire.
 
THE PERIYAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Lying close to the plantations in the rich jungles of Periyar in Thekkady is one of the world’s most fascinating natural wild life reserves - the Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary spread across 777 sq. km of which 360 sq. km is thick evergreen forest. Noted for its geomorphology, diversity of wildlife and scenic beauty, the reserve attracts visitors from all over the world.
The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mulla Periyar Dam across the Periyar River adds to the charm of the pack. This is the only sanctuary in India where you can have the unique experience of viewing wild life at close quarters with the safety of a boat on the lake. The greatest attraction of Periyar, however, is the herds of wild elephants that come down to play in the lake.
